Our History
Community
At B.C Patel & Co. we strongly believe that every child has a right to education, an equal chance to reach his or her true potential. In Kenya, one of the major issues facing these children is acute malnutrition; Many children walk long distances to go to school, often arriving with an empty stomach and in turn, not being able to concentrate in class and affecting school attendance.
As a reflection of this, we are proud to be a supporter of the Uji Feeding Programme, feeding a primary school with 1,250 students every single day of the school term since 2016. Uji is fermented brown porridge made of maize flour/millet and water; not only is this simple meal very healthy and packed with nutrients, but it also keeps the children feeling full for a long time.
This program is a strong incentive for families to consistently send their children to school. Since the inception of this initiative in 2016, we have seen remarkable improvements on several fronts – school attendance and enrolment has significantly increased. It has also improved the grades and cognitive abilities of these students, as it has allowed them to focus on their studies. A daily school meal creates hope during hard times, and we intend to keep this program going.
